We all care deeply about our skin. Women of all ages spend hundreds of dollars on skincare each year and many would spend even more if they could guarantee that they would get skin that appeared glowing and youthful. The good news is that in some cases, glowing skin can merely be a matter of changing your diet. Cutting and adding unhealthy foods that surround us in our daily lives is the best first step towards clear skin to take.

1. Reduce Sugar

Many women have experienced fewer breakouts when dramatically decreasing sugar in their diet. By replacing refined sugars with whole-grain carbs, you may also experience fewer rashes, breakouts, and wrinkles over time. In addition to having better skin, you will also put better fuel into your body. Reducing sugar could result in you feeling better overall.

2. Remove Fried Foods

Eating “bad” carbs such as pasta, white bread and cakes can cause steep increases in insulin and glucose in your body. This can cause additional breakouts on your skin. This increase in sugar can cause a process called glycation. Glycation is a process in which excess sugar clings to the collagen and causes the collagen to break down.

Contrary to popular belief, fried foods do not cause oil and acne to build upon your skin. But what it can do is cause bacteria to get trapped in your body and on your skin. Eating a lot of salt will not only cause your skin to get puffy – it can also create blemishes on your skin.

3. Reduce Dairy

Dairy contains hormones and natural triggers that have been linked to acne breakouts. Many people can eat and drink dairy products without any issues to their skin if it’s in moderation, however, it might cause problems for you if they’re a regular part of your diet and you have constant breakouts. Alternative options like almond milk and rice milk are much healthier options for your skin and overall diet.

4. Drink More Water

If you really want to have healthy skin, drink a lot more water. By drinking more water, you’re providing moisture that gets lost when you sweat and do other activities throughout the day.

5. Introduce Antioxidants

Foods high in antioxidants can help with the appearance of your skin. What exactly are antioxidants? Antioxidants help your body fight free radicals that could wreak havoc on your skin over time. To get more antioxidants in your diet, eat fruits and vegetables. Some other foods that contain antioxidants include chocolate and green tea.

6. Add Dark Chocolate

Chocolate lovers, rejoice! Dark chocolate can be good for your skin. Chocolate contains antioxidants that can create healthy skin. To get the best skin care results, eat only chocolate that has at least a 70 percent cocoa level. You should also look for chocolate sweetened with sugar alternatives like stevia.

We all want healthy skin. The good news is that it may be easier than we initially thought. By eating a balanced diet and drinking lots of water, you will notice that the health of our skin will improve over time.
